We are counting down the top 25 players in the Big East, one player at a time.

Up today: Duron Harmon, S, Rutgers.

2011 stats: 49 tackles, 2.5 for loss, five interceptions, one pass breakup, two quarterback hurries.

Making the case: Harmon came up absolutely huge in his first year as a full-time starter at safety, and was a big reason why Rutgers led the league in pass defense and interceptions (19). He was second in the league with five of his own, and had a big impact in the secondary. He and Logan Ryan proved to be the two best players of the group. Harmon was a bit of an unknown going into the season because he was replacing such a talented player in Joe Lefeged, but he made his own mark. Coach Greg Schiano noted Harmon's productivity as a big reason why other coaches took notice of him, and placed him on the Big East first team.

Preseason ranking: NR.

The countdown:

No. 25 Ryne Giddins, DE, USF

No. 24 Keith Tandy, CB, West Virginia
