I have already made two attempts at way too early Big East power rankings for 2012. But one man has gone a step further with more than five months to go before the season begins.
Jerry Palm over at CBSSports.com has come up with way, way, way too early bowl projections for all 35 games. Knowing how much you guys love predictions, I bring to you his picks from the Big East.
Six of the eight league teams are in games, an improvement over five in 2011. Rutgers is his choice as the BCS representative; Temple and UConn are out. Here is how Palm sees the 2012 bowl season playing out in the Big East:
Orange Bowl: Clemson vs. Rutgers
BBVA Compass Bowl: Mississippi State vs. Syracuse
New Era Pinstripe Bowl: Texas Tech vs. Pitt
Champs Sports: Louisville vs. Virginia Tech
Belk Bowl: Cincinnati vs. Georgia Tech
Beef 'O'Brady's Bowl: USF vs. UCF
My first bowl projections won't come out until before the season begins. But here are my latest pre-spring power rankings. Just eliminate West Virginia and move everybody up one spot. Temple will be included in the post-spring edition. Based on those rankings, you can probably figure out that Palm and I differ on one school -- UConn vs. Syracuse.
