UConn linebacker Graham Stewart is out for the season with torn pectoral muscle.
Stewart got hurt during a workout July 23 and underwent surgery July 27. Stewart transferred to UConn from Florida, where he played as a true freshman in 2011.
For Stewart to have been eligible to play this season, he would have needed a waiver from the NCAA. UConn did not complete the waiver process because of the injury. Stewart will have three years of eligibility remaining.
