Two Big East players were named Thursday to the watch list for the Paul Hornung Award, given annually to the most versatile player in major college football.
One player I will be watching for this season is UConn return man/receiver Nick Williams, who has been one of the best returners in the league. Coach Paul Pasqualoni has said he has plans to get Williams much more involved at receiver this season in order to take advantage of his playmaking abilities.
Also keep an eye on Terrence Mitchell at USF and Ralph David Abernathy IV at Cincinnati. Mitchell is completely healed from a scary head injury that kept him out for a good portion of last season. Abernathy was one of the best kickoff returners in the Big East last year -- returning one for a touchdown -- and should have an opportunity to contribute much more at running back. Jeremy Deering of Rutgers could be productive as well, depending on how well he takes to playing receiver.
