Syracuse uniforms to honor Ernie Davis

Syracuse will wear uniforms honoring late Heisman Trophy winner Ernie Davis against No. 2 USC on Saturday.
As part of the Nike Rivalry 2012 Uniform Series, every player will wear a special edition undergarment, Nike gloves and a commemorative patch on their jersey. The theme of the gear centers around the No. 44 and Davis, who became the first African-American to win the Heisman in 1961.
Davis and Syracuse Hall of Famers Jim Brown and Floyd Little also wore No. 44.
The undershirt features "The Express," No. 44 and the sleeve striping that was featured on the Syracuse uniforms of Davis’ era. The orange and blue gloves feature the Express train and No. 44. Special edition socks have "Express" written across the top of one of the socks and the school's zip code 13244 across the other.
The commemorative patch on the jerseys celebrates Davis' impact on college athletics. Davis was a three-time All-American running back, the MVP of two bowl games and played a major role in Syracuse's 1959 national championship. The Cleveland Browns selected Davis in the first round of the 1962 draft, but Davis died of leukemia in 1963 before he could make an impact in the league.
