Syracuse coach Doug Marrone disciplined Marquis Spruill and Steven Rene on Friday for their arrests earlier this month, announcing that both would miss a significant portion of the next games they are eligible to play in.
For Spruill, that's the Dec. 29 New Era Pinstripe Bowl. Rene, who underwent season-ending surgery last month for an upper body injury, will sit a portion of the first game he is medically cleared to return for.
Spruill was charged with disorderly conduct and second-degree harassment and Rene was charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct following an early-morning Dec. 2 altercation with police near campus. Both players, who are 21, appeared to be intoxicated, police said.
Spruill, a junior starting linebacker, recorded 62 tackles, nine tackles for loss and two sacks for the Orange. Rene, a junior running back, saw mostly special-teams action this season.
