The UConn Huskies got an unexpected sendoff Friday for their trip from Storrs to Morgantown, W. Va. -- as the players headed to their bus, they found their way lined with athletes from other UConn teams. And as they looked into the stands of Memorial Stadium, there were the members of the women’s track team forming the number 6 -- the number worn for Jasper Howard who died early Sunday morning after being stabbed following a school-sanctioned dance. At the team hotel outside of Morgantown early Friday evening, coach Randy Edsall said he and his players found the sendoff “very touching” and said it “showed solidarity … and the bond of UConn athletes.”
Beth Mowins reports from Morgantown as Connecticut returns to the field to play No. 23 West Virginia after the loss of Jasper Howard.
