Just when Pitt was having a hard time getting separation from Syracuse, a big defensive play gave the Panthers a lot of momentum going into halftime.

A Greg Paulus screen pass was tipped at the line of scrimmage, and linebacker Greg Williams grabbed it and showed off the skills that made him a star high school running back, returning it 52 yards for the game's only touchdown.

Pitt leads 13-3 at the half. Not overly impressive, but the Panthers have been a good second-half team of late.
