USA Today did a terrific piece today on college football coaching salaries, complete with a searchable database. Here's what each Big East coach makes, according to the report:
The report said that Pitt did not report Wannstedt's outside income, while UConn did not report the income Edsall makes from shoe companies and camps. There was no explanation for Marrone's salary being unavailable, but he is in his first year and Syracuse is a private school that's not subject to open-records laws.
It's interesting that the two highest-paid coaches in the league, from this data, have never won a conference title. The two guys in this league who have made a BCS game -- Stewart and Kelly -- are two of the lower-paid coaches.
USA Today reported that the average head-coaching salary in the FBS is $1.36 million. Viewed in that light, the Big East coaches are about par for the course when it comes to compensation.
