Rutgers came into the night leading the nation in turnover margin and fifth in the FBS with 25 takeaways.

The Scarlet Knights have been at it again against South Florida, gaining four turnovers and blocking a punt in the first half. That has helped them take an 13-0 first-half lead, which could have been more if not for a botched field goal, a long missed kick and a failed fourth-down conversion near the South Florida 30. Credit the Bulls' defense for keeping them in the game.

Rutgers may end up regretting not putting the Bulls away early, but so far South Florida hasn't been able to get anything going offensively, other than a couple of big plays.

B.J. Daniels has struggled mightily against the Rutgers defensive pressure and has turned the ball over three, all of them careless plays. He threw a terrible interception into his own end zone with no receivers in the picture.

Daniels looks more like a freshman than Scarlet Knights quarterback Tom Savage, even though Daniels has more experience as a redshirt guy. Savage has thrown a pick -- just his second of the year -- but otherwise has looked really solid.

South Florida's history of playing poorly on Thursday nights and losing to Rutgers has not changed -- yet.

I'll be back with more thoughts later on.
