First quarter: South Florida 0, Louisville 0

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- George Selvie says he's fully healed from his ankle injury, and he sure looks like his old self early on.

Selvie has two sacks, a tackle for a loss and has batted down a pass in just two defensive series. Louisville has no answer for the hard-charging defensive end.

He's the biggest story so far in a quarter that has featured no scoring. The other is penalties.

The Cardinals continue to hurt themselves with dumb penalties. They got backed up on their first series with an illegal block call, and Chris Campa committed a silly roughing the passer penalty near the end of the first quarter that has South Florida set up inside the Louisville 20.

Louisville receiver Trent Guy is not dressed today. He is suffering from an illness.

The Cardinals have gotten decent pressure on Matt Grothe thus far, but Grothe is still making plays. He has completed 8 of 10 passes for 65 yards. Louisville has only four yards rushing, but that includes the sack numbers. Victor Anderson had one nice third-and-long run but has been bottled up otherwise early on.
