• South Florida continues to rank among the nation's most repeat offenders when it comes to penalties, Brett McMurphy writes in the Tampa Tribune. The Bulls have finished in the top 10 nationally in most penalty yards since the NCAA began tracking the statistic in 2000 and are fourth nationally this year after committing 14 penalties against Louisville.

• The outlook for Pittsburgh's season took a swift, cruel turn in one weekend, Bob Smizik writes in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

• Cincinnati's turnover margin has gone way down this year, Bill Koch writes in the Cincinnati Enquirer. The Bearcats had a plus-16 margin last year to lead the Big East but are now last in the league at minus-6.

• West Virginia coach Bill Stewart says UConn reminds him of the old Don Nehlen teams in Morgantown, Dave Hickman reports in the Charleston Gazette.

• Connecticut defensive end Cody Brown had his best game against Cincinnati last week, but coach Randy Edsall wants even more, Chip Malafronte writes in the New Haven Register.

• Rutgers quarterback Mike Teel got a much-needed confidence boost with his six-touchdown day at Pitt, Tom Luicci writes in The Star-Ledger. Teel was also named USA Today's national player of the week.
