SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Quick halftime analysis from Notre Dame Stadium, where the Fighting Irish lead Connecticut 14-10:
Turning point: Notre Dame jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead and had UConn ready to punt for the fourth straight series when Sergio Brown hit a receiver out of bounds on a third-down incompletion. A few moments later, four Irish defenders whiffed on Jordan Todman as he ran for a 43-yard touchdown to give UConn some much-needed momentum.
Best player in the half: Notre Dame's Golden Tate has six catches for 96 yards and a score. He became the Irish's single-season receiving champion and now has 80 receptions for 1,268 yards and 12 touchdowns on the year.
What Notre Dame needs to do: Keep airing it out, and take advantage of Tate and Michael Floyd against the UConn defensive backs.
What UConn needs to do: Make Notre Dame put together sustained drives, then pound the ball on the ground offensively with their big line to wear out the Notre Dame defense. Really, though, it's likely that this game comes down to the final two minutes. It always does with these two teams.
