It's Monday in the Big East, so that means it's time to check in on various quarterback situations. Here are a few updates from today's coaches' teleconference:

• Pittsburgh coach Dave Wannstedt said he's "optimistic" that Bill Stull will return under center this week against Louisville. Stull suffered a concussion in the Rutgers game and did not play against Notre Dame. Wannstedt said Stull "ran and felt good" in a light workout Sunday and would be evaluated when the Panthers return to practice Tuesday.

"Obviously if something comes up from a medical standpoint then we'll adjust," he said. "But as we sit here today, I'm optimistic that he's been cleared by doctors and he'll be good to go."

• Cincinnati expects Dustin Grutza to return to practice today for the first time since he broke his leg in Week 2 at Oklahoma. Grutza was dressed for last Thursday's game against South Florida but wasn't able to practice last week. Coach Brian Kelly had said last month that Grutza could be ready the week before the West Virginia game, which is this week.

"The training staff claims he's much better today, but I still need to see him before I can answer that question," Kelly said.

So what if Grutza comes back and looks good in practice? He's a senior who lost his job only because of injury, but junior Tony Pike played well last week in the South Florida win.

"You have to evaluate it week to week, but clearly right now we have a tough decision to make," Kelly said. "I don't know that I've got to answer that question yet, but it's not going to be an easy one."

• Connecticut's Tyler Lorenzen, who broke a bone in his foot in the Louisville game, was moving around with ease in pre-game warmups Saturday against West Virginia. The senior could be ready to come back by the time the Huskies play again on Nov. 15 versus Syracuse.

UConn coach Randy Edsall said Lorenzen "goes back in the mix" along with Cody Endres and Zach Frazer when he's healthy. All will be evaluated in the next two weeks, said Edsall, who hasn't announced a quarterback before gameday the past two contests.

"We don't play this week, so I don't have to make a decision right now," he said.
