Brown, McCoy, Mickens up for major awards

Connecticut running back Donald Brown and Pittsburgh running back LeSean McCoy are among 15 semifinalists for the Maxwell Award, which is given to the nation's best player. The other semifinalists are Oklahoma's Sam Bradford, Texas Tech's Michael Crabtree and Graham Harrell, Missouri's Chase Daniel and Jeremy Maclin, Georgia's Knowshon Moreno, Florida's Tim Tebow, Iowa's Shonn Greene, Texas's Colt McCoy, Penn State's Daryl Clark, Oklahoma State's Zac Robinson, Michigan State's Javon Ringer and USC's Mark Sanchez.

Cincinnati senior cornerback Mike Mickens is one of 13 semifinalists for the Jim Thorpe Award, signifying the nation's best defensive back. The other semifinalists are Asher Allen (Georgia), Eric Berry (Tennessee), Emanuel Cook (South Carolina), Vontae Davis (Illinois), Trimane Goddard (North Carolina), Malcolm Jenkins (Ohio State), Trevard Lindley (Kentucky), Taylor Mays (USC), D.J. Moore (Vanderbilt), Williams Moore (Missouri), Alphonso Smith (Wake Forest), and Otis Wiley (Michigan State)
