Brian Kelly isn't going to talk about job speculation. Except, you know, when he feels like it.

Kelly spent the entire weekend shooting down questions about his possible interest in other jobs, but he told Dan Patrick today that he would evaluate his future in the next few days. In the conversation, Kelly couldn't guarantee that he would coach the Bearcats in the Allstate Sugar Bowl against Florida.

Kelly admitted it's difficult to talk openly about this because he's still under contract. He said he's working on an extension with Cincinnati. "I may come out in 48 hours and say I'm staying here at Cincinnati even if the New England Patriots call," Kelly said.

The question seems to be whether Notre Dame will offer him its job, and there are conflicting signals coming out of South Bend about the Fighting Irish's actual level of interest in Kelly. Some reports indicate that UConn's Randy Edsall is the more favored candidate at this point. I still believe that if Notre Dame calls, Kelly will go.

Kelly said he had an offer from a "major BCS school" last year but declined to identify it to Patrick. In Josh Katzowitz's book, "Bearcats Rising," Kelly divulged that he was offered the Washington job last year but didn't take it because it was too far away from where most of his family lives.
