Lawsuits next at South Florida?

In a move that may be ominous for, well, somebody, the player who originally accused South Florida coach Jim Leavitt of slapping him has retained the services of a high-powered attorney.

Walk-on Joel Miller's family made the original allegation that Leavitt grabbed him and slapped him at halftime of the Louisville game. Miller and his father quickly recanted the story and told school investigators it didn't happen. But South Florida found enough evidence to believe that Leavitt acted inappropriately and fired the coach on Friday.

Now, Miller's new attorney is saying that his client was in fact hit by his coach.

"He (Leavitt) hit him," Barry Cohen told the Tampa Tribune. "He was trying to protect this coach earlier, and he didn't tell what actually happened.

"He was a victim of this thing. He tried to protect his coach. He was disappointed the coach didn't tell the truth."

Will the Miller family sue Leavitt and/or USF? Cohen isn't saying anything yet except that he's gathering evidence.

And if the Mike Leach situation at Texas Tech is any indication, I doubt Leavitt will accept his firing without fighting for at least the remainder of what's owed to him on his contract.

So while the Bulls hope to quickly name a new coach and get this past this sordid mess, it looks like the Leavitt drama isn't nearly over with yet.
