Big East Week 14 picks

11/26/2008

Only two games this week, but nothing less than the Big East championship is at stake. So I'm making my picks in championship form.

FRIDAY

Pittsburgh 20, West Virginia 17: Pitt can stop the run -- it struggles against teams with good passing attacks. I liked the way the Panthers defended the perimeter against Navy and think they have enough speed to contain Pat White and Noel Devine. Like last year, this will be another low-scoring, defensive-minded game. Last year was a major upset. This year won't be.

SATURDAY

Cincinnati 35, Syracuse 10: There are two ways this can go. Either Cincinnati comes out tight with the Big East title on the line and let the Orange hang around. Or the Bearcats will run Syracuse out of the building and turn it into an Orange Bowl pre-party. Knowing the way Brian Kelly coaches, I say they go for the jugular and make it the latter.

Last week: 3-2

Season results: 39-23 (63 percent)
