West Virginia fans can breathe a sigh of relief. Star quarterback recruit Barry Brunetti is going to be a Mountaineer after all.

Brunetti committed to West Virginia last summer, but in the past week made visits to Mississippi State and Louisville. The Mountaineers -- who lost a couple of high-profile recruits to Marshall when former assistant Doc Holliday was named head coach there -- had reason to be worried about another decommitment.

But Brunetti said he wanted to go to West Virginia all along and made the extra visits because his mom "wanted me to look around and make sure I picked the right school."

The Memphis product was named a Parade All-American this week. Scouts Inc. ranks Brunetti as the 14th-best quarterback in the nation.

Now the question is how the Mountaineers will use Brunetti in the immediate future. Sophomore Geno Smith is the presumed starter for 2010.
