We don't know for sure yet what the exact titles and duties will be for Skip Holtz's assistants at South Florida. But contract information released by the school gives a pretty good idea of the pecking order.

The two highest paid assistants will be Mark Snyder and Todd Fitch at $210,000 each. Snyder, who was head coach at Marshall last season, is almost certain to be defensive coordinator, while former East Carolina assistant Fitch should be offensive coordinator.

Rick Smith, who was ECU's assistant head coach and defensive backs coach, will make $200,000. Vernon Hargreaves -- who coached defensive ends and special teams for Holtz at ECU -- and ex-Miami of Ohio offensive coordinator Peter Vaas will each make $185,000.

The highest-paid assistant on Jim Leavitt's staff last season was offensive coordinator Mike Canales, who made $200,000.

The salaries for the assistants are competitive in the Big East. The highest-paid assistant in the league last year was West Virginia's Doc Holliday at $400,000; he's now the head coach at Marshall, succeeding Snyder. Mountaineers defensive coordinator Jeff Casteel earned $275,000.

By comparison's sake, Cincinnati offensive coordinator Jeff Quinn was paid $170,000, the same amount as UConn's highest-paid coordinator (Joe Moorhead). Rutgers had one assistant (assistant head coach/co-offensive coordinator Kyle Flood) who made $200,000
