Connecticut coach Randy Edsall has hired Darrell Perkins to coach defensive backs and Jonathan Wholley as his new tight ends coach. Perkins replaces Scott Lakatos, who went to Georgia, while Wholley replaces Dave McMichael, who left for West Virginia.

Perkins was the defensive backs coach at Louisiana-Monroe the past two seasons. Before that, he served as defensive coordinator at Charleston Southern.

Wholley is a UConn graduate who played for the Huskies from 2001 to 2004. He was a running back who began his career as a walk-on and later earned a scholarship.

Last season, he coached running backs and was recruiting coordinator for Fordham. He's a native of Southington, Conn.
