South Florida offensive lineman Zach Hermann has decided to end his career because of a lingering neck injury.
Hermann started the first eight games of 2009 before suffering the injury against West Virginia. He returned to Bulls practice this week but he and the team's medical staff determined the risk of further injury was too great.
"He's going through a hard time right now in accepting it," head coach Skip Holtz said.
Hermann was the team's most experienced lineman, with 26 starts in 28 career games, and he was slated to be a starter this season. However, offensive line is one of the deepest positions for the Bulls.
