If you're strictly a fan of the Big East or a Big East school, you might not have a dog in the fight during tonight's FedEx BCS National Championship Game.

But there are some Big East ties in this game, almost all of them on the Florida side. To wit:

• Florida assistant head coach/offensive line coach and future offensive coordinator Steve Addazio was an assistant at Syracuse from 1995-98. Several former players pushed for him to get the Orange head-coaching job that eventually went to Doug Marrone.

• Dan McCarney, Florida's assistant head coach/defensive line coach, held the same position in 2007 at South Florida and is credited with helping develop George Selvie.

• Florida tight ends coach John Hevesy was a graduate assistant at Syracuse in 1997.

• Florida running backs coach Kenny Carter had the same job for Pittsburgh in 2000, when his charges included Kevan Barlow.

• Current West Virginia associate head coach Doc Holliday held the same title with the Gators from 2005-07.

There are far fewer connections between Oklahoma and the Big East, but the Sooners are the only team that has played a Big East team this season. Oklahoma beat eventual league champion Cincinnati, 52-26, on Sept. 6.
