Big East true freshmen in Week 1
By Andrea Adelson
So how did true freshmen fare in the Big East in Week 1?
Three of the most highly anticipated debuts in the league were relatively quiet. Pitt running back Rushel Shell was suspended for the opener; Rutgers defensive lineman Darius Hamilton got some work in but did not record a tackle; Syracuse athlete Ashton Broyld had four receptions for 28 yards, with a long play of 9 yards.
That, of course, was just an opening week glimpse. We will continue to keep an eye on those three to see how they fare the rest of the way.
Here is a look at the other true freshmen who saw playing time this past weekend, according to the participation charts in every game recap. Remember, Cincinnati debuts Thursday against Pitt. And for those of you looking for the Monday power rankings, those have been moved to Tuesday at 9 a.m.
