Greene, Ryan semifinalists for awards

By Andrea Adelson

Rutgers linebacker Khaseem Greene was selected a semifinalist for the Chuck Bednarik Award on Monday, while teammate Logan Ryan was selected as a semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award.

They are the only two Big East representatives on the respective lists: the Bednarik honors the best defensive player in college football; the Thorpe honors the best defensive back in football.

Greene leads Rutgers in tackles (67), sacks (3.5) and forced fumbles (4) to go along with two interceptions, 5.5 tackles for loss and six quarterback hurries this season. Astute Big East observers will note that Greene is a semifinalist for best defensive player, but was left off the semifinalist list for the Butkus Award, given to the best linebacker in the nation. Teammate Steve Beauharnais made the semifinalist list for that award.

Ryan is tied for second in the Big East and tied for 24th nationally with three interceptions in 2012. He also is 10th nationally with 12 pass breakups on the season.
