USF QB B.J. Daniels out for the year

By Andrea Adelson

Tough news for South Florida and B.J. Daniels on Saturday night.

Daniels will miss the remainder of the season after breaking his left ankle at the end of a fourth-quarter run in a 13-6 victory over Connecticut.

Coach Skip Holtz told reporters in Tampa, Fla., after the game that he was heartbroken for his team leader. Daniels, who took over the starting job as a redshirt freshman in 2009, ends his career with 10,501 yards of total offense, ranking No. 3 in Big East history.

Had Daniels been able to finish out the season, he would have been a virtual lock to break the mark of 10,875, held by former USF quarterback Matt Grothe.

The Bulls will now turn to redshirt freshman Matt Floyd for the final three games of the season. USF has a bye before playing at Miami on Nov. 17.
