Rutgers to Russell Athletic Bowl
By Andrea Adelson
Rutgers is headed to the Russell Athletic Bowl to play Virginia Tech at the Florida Citrus Bowl.
The Scarlet Knights (9-3, 5-2 Big) head to an Orlando bowl for the first time in school history. They have a five-game bowl winning streak, tied for the nation’s longest. Rutgers has played in seven bowls in the past eight years and this will be its eighth bowl all-time. The co-Big East champions enter the game looking for their first double-digit win season since 2006, when it went 11-2.
“After winning a share of the Big East championship for the first time in school history, it is a great reward for our football family to play in the Russell Athletic Bowl in beautiful Orlando,” Rutgers coach Kyle Flood said in a statement. “We are excited to continue our season against an ACC opponent in one of the best destinations to be in during bowl season.”
Rutgers missed out on a shot to play in a BCS game after losing to Louisville last week at home. The Scarlet Knights will take on their ACC opponent Dec. 28 at 5:30 p.m. on ESPN. The opponent for the game will be announced later tonight.
