UCF 1 of 19 teams to avoid FCS
By Matt Fortuna
UCF is one of 19 FBS teams that will not play an FCS school in 2013, marking the second straight year the Knights will avoid playing a team from the level formerly known as Div. I-AA.
Akron, Florida International, Penn State and South Carolina make up UCF's nonconference schedule in 2013.
The Knights are the only Big East team to avoid FCS teams this upcoming season, and they are one of nine AQ schools (including Notre Dame, which boasts that it has never played an FCS team) to avoid FCS teams this fall as well. Only 10 other FBS teams will have avoided FCS teams in both 2012 and 2013.
Last season, 23 FBS teams managed to avoid FCS opponents, down from 27 in 2011 and 36 in 2010, according to Football Outsiders' Brian Fremeau.
The other schools with all FBS opponents in 2013 are Florida Atlantic, Hawaii, Miami (Ohio), Michigan, New Mexico, North Texas, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Penn State, Rice, Southern Mis, Stanford, Texas, Tulsa, UCLA, USC, UTEP and UTSA.
UCF says there are currently a total of 108 games scheduled between FBS and FCS schools in college football for 2013.
