Houston signs former USC WR Ambles
By Andrea Adelson
Houston added former USC receiver Markeith Ambles to its 2013 signing class, the school announced Monday.
Ambles spent last season at Arizona Western College and will have two years of eligibility remaining, beginning this fall. He came to the Trojans as a highly touted four-star prospect in 2010, but off-the-field troubles marked the majority of his career in Los Angeles. He was ruled ineligible for the 2011 season and subsequently withdrew from school. Ambles only had one catch for 3 yards in his USC career.
At Arizona Western last year, Ambles had 44 receptions for 757 yards and six touchdowns and was an all-area selection. His addition to the Houston receiving corps could make this one of the best in the AAC. Three receivers with 40 or more catches last season are back, including Deontay Greenberry, who made the Conference USA all-freshman team. Greenberry was a four-star receiver himself out of high school.
This marks the second straight season Houston has nabbed a former high-profile prep recruit from a major program. The Cougars also have LSU transfer linebacker Trevon Randle, who is expected to make an immediate impact this upcoming fall after sitting out 2012.
