Nike unveiled its ProCombat uniforms for several schools this season, including Pittsburgh and West Virginia. The teams will wear them for the Backyard Brawl this year.
Enough talk. You want to see. So here are links.
First to the WVU uniforms. Here and a closer look here.
Nike says the West Virginia outfits are inspired by the state's coal mines. "The Mountaineers will be clad in a shade of White that looks as if it has a fine layer of coal dust on the surface. Powerful block numbers on the jersey are rendered in a smudged Black."
I'm still marveling at the gold shoes.
And now for Pittsburgh. Click here and for the close-up look here.
Nike says that blast furnaces from the city's steel mills inspired the Pitt uniforms. "Rendered primarily in smoky College Navy and Black, the jersey numbers appear in metallic Team Gold to represent the brilliant glow of a blast furnace. The notched stenciling of the numbers and the gold stripe on the helmet are evocative of steel I-beams. The helmet itself is textured to resemble a steelworker’s hard-hat."
