Spring games are sort of a big deal these days, as evidenced by the huge crowds who show up to watch the scrimmages.

Scenes like this and this used to be reserved for fall Saturdays. Now they take place in mid- to late-April.

Not surprisingly, more spring game are being broadcast on national television. And for the first time, one of the ESPN networks will air a Big Ten spring game.

ESPN2 will broadcast Penn State's Blue-White Game on April 24 (2 p.m. ET). Penn State is one of four teams to have spring games featured on ESPN or ESPN2.

An estimated 76,500 fans attended last year's Blue-White Game at Beaver Stadium. Penn State certainly does its spring game right, holding a pregame autograph session with players and announcing the spring award winners.

Penn State starts spring ball later this month, and the quarterback competition will take center stage as the Lions try to replace first-team All-Big Ten selection Daryll Clark.
