The real Joe Paterno probably wouldn't mind if he had lost his inch-thick glasses during the second quarter of the Rose Bowl, when USC piled up 24 points on his Penn State team. It was hard to watch.
But the Joe Paterno statue outside Beaver Stadium would like its specs back. Apparently someone stole the bronze glasses from the statue sometime between Friday and Saturday morning.
This is the second time the statue, unveiled in 2001, has been vandalized. Penn State plans to replace the statue's glasses at an unknown cost to the university.
This is still pretty uncool, though. A Joe Paterno statue without glasses would be like a Bear Bryant statue without a houndstooth hat. The thing looks naked.
Anyone with information about the bronze glasses should contact Penn State University police.
