Purdue's Caleb TerBursh ruled ineligible
The Boilermakers' depth at quarterback has taken a hit as projected backup Caleb TerBush was ruled academically ineligible for the 2010 season.
TerBush, a 6-5, 222-pound sophomore competed with Marve for the starting job in spring practice and actually earned the team's Most Improved Award following spring ball. TerBush sparkled in the Black & Gold Game, completing 13 of 18 passes for 147 yards and two touchdowns.
“We are disappointed to learn the news about Caleb, but the football program, his teammates and Boilermaker Nation are going to rally around him and support him,” head coach Danny Hope said in a statement. "There are guys that he interacts with on a daily basis who have been where he is and proven there is a way back to earning the privilege to play on Saturdays. Our program remains committed to the success of Caleb and all our football players."
Redshirt freshman Rob Henry moves into the backup role behind Marve. The Boilers likely would have redshirted promising quarterback recruit Sean Robinson, but he now could play a bigger role this season.
