The official word about Big Ten division alignment will come down Wednesday night at 7 p.m. ET, and the football schedules for 2011 and 2012 also will be announced at this time.
Multiple sources tell colleague Andy Katz that the new divisions will look like this:
Division 1: Michigan, Nebraska, Iowa, Michigan State, Northwestern, Minnesota
Division 2: Ohio State, Penn State, Wisconsin, Purdue, Indiana, Illinois
Katz also reports that there will be protected crossovers such as Michigan-Ohio State, Wisconsin-Minnesota and Illinois-Northwestern.
Several signs point toward the Ohio State-Michigan game remaining on the final Saturday of the regular season. We'll know for sure Wednesday, as athletic directors Gene Smith (Ohio State) and Dave Brandon (Michigan) will appear on the Big Ten Network's announcement show.
Big Ten athletic directors and league officials finalized the divisions Monday, Katz reports.
I'll have a full reaction on the divisions after they become official at 7 p.m. ET. I'll also have more from commissioner Jim Delany after his media teleconference at 8 p.m. ET.
