Big Red update: Week 4

September, 20, 2010
It's time for my weekly checkup on future Big Ten member Nebraska.

Too bad the Huskers aren't part of the league right now. The Big Ten would have an additional BCS title contender.

Record: 3-0

National rank: No. 6 in AP Poll, No. 7 in Coaches' Poll (one first-place vote)

Last result: Crushed Washington 56-21 in Seattle.

News to know: Big Ten fans should get to know the name Taylor Martinez. He could be tormenting the league as a sophomore in 2011 after carving up Washington for 287 yards and four touchdowns (3 rush, 1 pass). Martinez made a statement in his first career road start, and so did Nebraska, which dominated a supposedly better Washington team led by the supposedly great Jake Locker. It certainly looked like the good old days for the Big Red, which piled up 383 rush yards as both Roy Helu Jr. and Rex Burkhead eclipsed 100 yards on the ground. Nebraska's secondary continued to display some good aggressiveness, twice picking off Locker and returning one to the end zone by Alfonzo Dennard. All in all, life is very good for Bo Pelini's crew.

Up next: Saturday versus South Dakota State
