Danny Hope signed 14 players from Florida in his first recruiting class at Purdue, but he landed his biggest prize from the Sunshine State as Robert Marve will transfer to the school, a source tells ESPN's Joe Schad.
An announcement is expected later this week.
Marve, the former Miami quarterback, chose a scholarship offer at Purdue over a chance to walk-on at Tennessee, which looks like a pretty wise decision. He'll enter 2010 with an excellent chance to win the starting quarterback spot with the Boilers, who produced several NFL quarterbacks under previous head coach Joe Tiller.
Projected starter Joey Elliott graduates after this season, and promising sophomore Justin Siller, who started three games last fall, was dismissed from school in early April. Marve will have two years of eligibility remaining.
Purdue always appeared to be the leader for Marve, who also took official visits to Arizona State, South Florida and Nebraska. Tennessee entered the mix late, but Marve looks to be headed to West Lafayette.
There was a lot of drama surrounding Marve at Miami, and a year to blend into the program at Purdue probably will serve him well. He needs to immediately begin the process of gaining his teammates' trust at Purdue, in addition to learning the offense run by coordinator Gary Nord.
Hope's ability to lure talented players from his home state of Florida will serve him well at Purdue. If Marve makes a smooth transition -- not a guarantee -- Purdue should be in excellent shape for the future.
