Well, this is getting interesting.
Despite media reports earlier Tuesday that Michigan fired Rich Rodriguez, athletic director Dave Brandon says no decision has been made regarding the coach. Rodriguez and Brandon met for four hours Tuesday and will meet again Wednesday to discuss the coach's future.
That's pretty unusual. Typically, if a coach is getting fired the meeting lasts about five minutes.
A Michigan spokesman told me via e-mail earlier Tuesday: "This is media speculation at this point. The definitive voice on this matter is Dave Brandon and he has not and will not speak publicly until a final decision has been made."
A team meeting scheduled for Tuesday night has been postponed until 4 p.m. ET Wednesday.
Could Rodriguez save himself? It's anyone's guess at this point. If Jim Harbaugh isn't a realistic option for Michigan, I don't think Brandon would be off base by retaining Rodriguez for another year and making changes to the defensive staff. On the other hand, the bowl embarrassment and the length of time without a decision isn't helping anyone.
Wild day in Ann Arbor and another one on tap.
