Ranking the Big Ten's top 30 players ...
No. 3
Eric Decker, WR, Minnesota, Sr., 6-2, 215
|
Why he's here -- There might not be a more reliable college receiver in America than Decker. In three seasons he has recorded 177 receptions, just two shy of the team record held by Ron Johnson, and he's recorded at least one catch in 26 consecutive games entering the fall.
A finalist for the Biletnikoff Award in 2008, Decker led the Big Ten in both receptions (84) and receiving yards (1,074) despite missing a game with a high ankle sprain. He broke his own single-season team record for receptions and recorded the second-highest receiving yards total in team history. Though he's often described as a possession receiver in the slot, Decker recorded 15 receptions of 20 yards or more last fall, including four of 40 yards or more. He's also a tremendous blocker in the run game.
One of the better all-around athletes in the Big Ten, Decker joined Minnesota's baseball team as a junior and was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 39th round of last year's draft. Despite rumors that he'll pursue a pro baseball career immediately, Decker is expected to return for his senior season on the gridiron and serve as a co-captain. He'll once again contend for the Biletnikoff Award and All-America honors this fall.
