Big Ten rankings: No. 21, Stefen Wisniewski

2/20/2011

The 2010 Big Ten postseason player rankings continue with ...

No. 21: Stefen Wisniewski, G, Penn State, Sr., 6-3, 306

2010 numbers: Started all 13 games at right guard; earned first-team All-Big Ten honors from the coaches and second-team honors from the media; named a first-team AFCA All-American, the team's 95th first-teamer and the 78th under coach Joe Paterno. He also earned second-team AP All-America honors.

Preseason rank: No. 8 in the preseason top 25 player countdown

Why he's here: Penn State's offensive line has fluctuated with both personnel and performance in recent years, but the Lions always could count on Wisniewski's presence up front. He started 38 of his final 39 games, starting two full seasons (2008, 2010) at guard and another (2009) at center. He earned first-team All-Big Ten honors in each of the past two seasons and helped a new-look Penn State line rank among the national leaders in fewest sacks allowed this past season (tied for 10th, 11 sacks allowed). Wisniewski displayed tremendous versatility and consistency throughout his college career, which will serve him well at the next level. Although Penn State didn't have a banner year on offense in 2010, the unit improved in the second half of the season and ran the ball a lot more effectively. As usual, Wisniewski played a key role in the surge. He'll be missed in Happy Valley.
