The preseason polls are rolling out, and we at ESPN weighed in today with our first installment of the power rankings. To no surprise, defending national champ Florida was a unanimous pick at No. 1, followed by Texas and Oklahoma.
Three Big Ten teams made the rundown: Ohio State at No. 6, Penn State at No. 9 and Iowa at No. 20 (tied with Florida State).
Michigan State and Illinois both received votes for the rankings, with the Spartans coming in 28th overall and the Fighting Illini at 38th.
This year's rankings have a voter-by-voter breakdown, but if you're too lazy to find my picks, here they are.
1. Florida
2. Texas
3. USC
4. Oklahoma
5. Virginia Tech
6. Ohio State
7. Alabama
8. Mississippi
9. Penn State
10. Oklahoma State
11. LSU
12. TCU
13. Boise State
14. Cal
15. Georgia Tech
16. Oregon
17. Georgia
18. Nebraska
19. Iowa
20. Florida State
21. Notre Dame
22. North Carolina
23. Utah
24. Michigan State
25. Kansas
As you can see, I gave the Big Ten some love with four teams in the rankings. My roots as a non-BCS writer for ESPN.com also show with three non-AQ teams, including two in the top 15.
I was one of five voters to include Michigan State, which received Ivan Maisel's vote at No. 18. Maisel isn't as high on Iowa and was one of four voters not to include the Hawkeyes in his selections. Colleague Bruce Feldman clearly doesn't think much of the Big Ten right now, listing no Big Ten teams in the top 10 and only two in his entire Top 25.
