As Indiana opens a new chapter under coach Kevin Wilson this fall, the school is returning to a traditional look with its uniforms and helmets.
Indiana University AthleticsIndiana is returning to a traditional look with their uniforms.
Hoosiers players will wear helmets and jerseys that no longer include stripes. They'll don white face masks rather than the red ones Indiana players have worn since 2005.
Here's a closer look at the new unis and helmets.
"I think fans are really going to like our return to a more traditional design and color scheme," Indiana athletic director Fred Glass said in a prepared statement. "We are thrilled that our partner adidas was able to come up with such a classic look while still using state-of-the-art technology."
The technology changes are as significant as the cosmetic ones. Indiana's jerseys will feature adidas' TECHFIT compression technology, described in a news release as "a complete reconstruction."
Using a streamlined fit, new fabric, reduced seams and an ultra lightweight name and numbering system, the TECHFIT jerseys weigh 30 percent less than traditional jerseys. One of the advantages of the compression fit is that there is no extra material for opponents to grab or hold, and it also helps with range of motion and comfort for the players on the field.
The new jerseys and helmets will be unveiled Sept. 3 when Indiana opens its season against Ball State at Indianapolis' Lucas Oil Stadium.
This isn't a dramatic change, and your view on it likely depends on whether you like stripes or not. I prefer helmets without stripes, but others don't mind them.
What are your thoughts on Indiana's look?
