New Cy-Hawk Trophy is umm ....

There's the Heisman Trophy, with iconic stiff-arming runner with the ball. There's the Stanley Cup, the holiest of holy grails in team sports.

And now there's this right here.

Yep, that's the new Cy-Hawk Trophy for the Iowa-Iowa State game. Because what says football greatness quite like a farmer kneeling over a basket of corn with his family?
"This is literally a work of art representing the people and characteristics that are uniquely Iowan.” Craig Floss, CEO for Iowa Corn, told KRCG.com. “Just as the trophy reads, we are honest, hard working, family and community orientated people. Iowa’s corn farmers are proud to bring this work of art to the new Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series football game and we look forward to sharing it with the people of Iowa.”

That's a great sentiment, and nothing against the hard-working corn growers of Iowa. But if you're a football player who just left your blood and sweat on the field for 60 minutes, is that really what you want to hoist in celebration afterward? It looks more like something your grandmother would buy off a home shopping channel.

Here's a picture of the old Cy-Hawk Trophy. Nothing real original there, and it definitely needed an update from its Little League look. But at least it had, you know, a football and a football player on it. Could we at least sneak a football into that corn basket or something?

I shudder to think now what the Heroes Game Trophy for the Nebraska-Iowa game will look like. Maybe a fireman shaking hands with an astronaut or something.
