Not a major surprise, but Joe Paterno likely will have the same vantage point as yours truly for Saturday's game between No. 23 Penn State and No. 2 Alabama.

Colleague Joe Schad reports Paterno's doctors are advising the 84-year-old to coach from the press box rather than the field. Paterno, still recovering from shoulder and pelvis injuries after a player crashed into him during a practice last month, watched Penn State's season-opening win against Indiana State from the press box last week.

Paterno, who is still using a cane when he walks, said Tuesday that he wanted to be on the field for the Bama game. You can imagine he'll try to convince his doctors to let him prowl the sideline, but expect to see the legendary coach in the press box.

"He said he may be on the sideline," Nittany Lions left tackle Quinn Barham said. "I don't know his health condition right now. … I don't want to risk him being hurt again. Either way, if he's on the sideline, it's great for our team. If he's in the booth, that's fine, too."
