Indiana was hanging around with Virginia, bending but not breaking on defense and giving itself a chance. Then the Hoosiers had a disastrous end to the first half.
Trailing just 6-3, the Hoosiers gave up a 45-yard pass play to the Cavaliers that led to a touchdown. Then Shane Wynn fumbled the ensuing kickoff deep in his own territory. The defense did a good job limiting Virginia to a field goal, but IU now trails 16-3 at halftime.
Kevin Wilson's offense has been underwhelming. It will have to respond in the second half if the Hoosiers want to avoid staring 0-2 on the season.
