Penn State is once again relying on its defense today, leading Eastern Michigan just 3-0 in the second quarter behind a sluggish offensive attack.

The bad news: one of the key pieces of that defense is no longer on the field.

Linebacker Michael Mauti injured his left knee in the first quarter and went to the locker room. Mauti walked off on his own, but before he went into the tunnel he had a towel over his head in an obvious sign of disappointment/frustration. Mauti has been injury prone and missed the 2009 season with a torn ACL in his left knee.

We'll let you know more about this injury as information becomes available.

Meanwhile, Penn State once again needs to get something going offensively. Rob Bolden played the entire first quarter, and now Matt McGloin is in. The bright spot is that Anthony Fera took over placekicking duties and actually hit a field goal for the Lions, who were 1-for-6 on field-goal tries the first three weeks.
