Illinois defense bails out offense again

Here's the strongest endorsement for Illinois' defense so far this season.

The Illini offense has committed five turnovers through the first three plus games. None have been converted into points.

Vic Koenning's defense continued to bail out the offense early in today's game against Western Michigan. After a Jason Ford fumble in Illinois territory, Western Michigan couldn't move the ball and settled for a long field-goal attempt, which it missed.

Nathan Scheelhaase and the Illinois offense can't expect the defense to keep up the trend, as turnovers typically get you beat. But the defense has to feel good about itself so far this season.

The Broncos easily could be up on Illinois, which seems very shaky on offense after last week's big win against Arizona State. But thanks to the defense, Illinois leads 7-3.
