Purdue knocks out Ohio State

Boiler up.

Buckeyes? Down. And quite possibly out.

Purdue quarterback Robert Marve made a bad mistake at the end of regulation, but he made big plays in overtime to lead the Boilermakers to a 26-20 upset of Ohio State.

Marve scored the game-winning touchdown on a sneak and set up the score with a tough first down run and a nice throw to the Buckeyes 1. Purdue beat the Buckeyes for the second straight time in West Lafayette.

And that means Ohio State is really behind the eight ball in the Leaders Division race with three conference losses. The Buckeyes need to beat Penn State next week and hope the Lions lose again to Wisconsin, while the Badgers lose another game before that finale against Penn State. That's a lot of help needed.

Purdue's defense stepped up in a big way, holding Ohio State to a field goal in its overtime possession and keeping the Buckeyes under 300 total yards for the game. And Bruce Gaston deserves a game ball for blocking an extra point that allowed the Boilers to get to overtime.

It's a tough, tough loss for Ohio State and a bad one for Luke Fickell's chances of keeping this job.
