The Big Ten might miss out on several of the more prestigious individual awards this season, but the league appears to be in good shape to produce a Rimington Trophy winner.
Wisconsin's Peter Konz and Michigan's David Molk are two of the six finalists for the Rimington Trophy, given to the nation's top center. The winner will be announced Thursday during the ESPNU Home Depot College Football Awards Show. The other finalists are Clemson's Dalton Freeman, Oklahoma State's Grant Garner, Georgia's Ben Jones and Alabama's William Vlachos.
Konz already has been named to the AFCA All-America team, while Molk earned Big Ten offensive lineman of the year honors. While it's hard to predict national award winners, both men have a good shot at the Rimington Trophy, which determines its recipient based on the following All-America teams: American Football Coaches Association, Walter Camp Foundation, Sporting News and Football Writers Association of America.
The Big Ten has produced three Rimington Trophy winner since 2004: Penn State's A.Q. Shipley, Minnesota's Greg Eslinger and Michigan's David Baas.
