Illinois players could have a different look on the field next fall as the Tim Beckman era kicks off.

The team is considering new helmets and has been showing off the possibilities to recruits visiting campus, BTN.com reported today. The big change is none of the potential helmets display "ILLINOIS" with the name underlined, as the current helmets do. Two helmet possibilities are orange with "ILLINI" in both blue lettering (with white border) and white lettering (with blue border). The lettering is more curved than straight across.

Another possibility is a blue helmet with a Block I in orange (with white border).

None of the helmet candidates have stripes like the current one.

A team official tells BTN.com that "no decisions have been made yet on helmet, uniform changes, or if there will even be a change."

Much like BTN.com's Brent Yarina, I think if Illinois makes a change, the blue helmet with the Block I is the best option. It's a sleek look that would look good with both the home and road uniforms. The other two are a bit too retro for my taste. We don't need to see this again.
