- It's hard not to buy into Ohio State's defense right now, Ken Gordon and Tim May write in The Columbus Dispatch. The Cleveland Plain Dealer's Doug Lesmerises, now known as the national authority on college football voting, weighs in on the ridiculousness of the Harris and Coaches polls.
- Kirk Ferentz doesn't care about the polls in September, but Iowa deserves a lofty ranking after beating Penn State, Mike Hlas writes in The (Cedar Rapids) Gazette.
- Tate Forcier's throwing shoulder is sore, but the Michigan quarterback should be fine for Saturday's trip to East Lansing, Angelique Chengelis writes in The Detroit News. Things are about to get interesting for Michigan as the Wolverines hit the road for the first time, Mark Snyder writes in the Detroit Free Press.
